Viet Cong D445 Provincial Mobile Battalion
These photos are by courtesy of the 5RAR Association.
They were captured during 5RAR's second tour of duty in Vietnam, 1969-70.
Together with North Vietnamese formations and regiments of 5th Viet Cong Division,
D445 Battalion proved a formidable adversary during the entire time that we Australians
operated in Phuoc Tuy Province.
The captured pictures shown below speak a thousand words about the difficulties encountered by an army from outside the country in identifying and defeating an insurgent force. The terrorists, both men and women soldiers, for the most part dress in the everyday clothing of their countrymen and, when pressed, are able to hide their weapons and meld into a civilian environment.
